A-Z of Sports

Basketball is a sport played in numerous countries as a game of ball skill, fitness, agility, speed and tactics. Teamwork plays an important role in the game and can be used to encourage the development of physical and social skills. Respect is key, as having respect for your opposition prepares you to act and not just react to a situation.

Teams may consist of up to 12 players but only five players may take the court at one time. There are no set positions in basketball and every one can shoot, although teams will have a playing structure and certain players will suit different areas of the court.

Basketball caters for all ages and abilities and can range from the social game to the highly competitive leagues.
