This dataset is produced by Public Health England. Cancer is the highest cause of death in England in under 75s. To ensure that there continues to be a reduction in the rate of premature mortality from cancer, there needs to be concerted action in both prevention and treatment.

Living an active lifestyle can reduce the likelihood of developing;

  • Breast cancer by 20%
  • Colon cancer by 30%

This dataset relates to 2015-2017.

Commentary

More people under the age of 75 are dying from cancer in the Black Country than they are across the rest of the country. A crude Black Country average indicates a mortality rate of 155.3 per 100,000, considerably higher than the national rate of 134.6.
