Active Black Country launch online activity finder Black Country Moving

Active Black Country alongside Local Authority partners have launched an online activity finder – blackcountrymoving.co.uk funded by Sport England’s Commonwealth Active Communities Fund (CAC) building on the positive impact of the 2022 Commonwealth Games to encourage people across the Black Country to get moving.

The activity finder, which is free to use, will encourage people – of all abilities - to get active in their local streets and parks, in schools, faith centres and traditional leisure centres covering activity from walking to swimming to group sports and exercise classes.

The website will help local people navigate from their doors to the place of the activity either on foot, by bike or public transport as well as signposting to online activities, making getting active accessible to all.

blackcountrymoving.co.uk will also provide the physical activity workforce, including health professionals and social prescribers, with a valuable resource with which to signpost residents to local activity opportunities.

Amanda Tomlinson, Chair of the Active Black Country Board said:

We are delighted that the activity finder – Black Country Moving - has gone live. Working with our partners across the Black Country we want to make it as easy, and accessible, as possible for everyone to be able to be more active and move more. blackcountrymoving.co.uk brings all the activity opportunities together in a simple to use way which we hope will become a go-to resource for people across the area.”

The website is primarily for the general public use however it is a tool that can also be used by healthcare and allied health professionals to create pathways from primary and secondary care to physical activity; and for education professionals to source appropriate third-party support for physical activity within schools.

If there are any activity providers out there that would like to get their activities directly uploaded on to the website, free of charge, they can visit https://opensessions.io/#/home and upload the details directly.

The Black Country Moving activity finder supports Active Black Country’s Creating an Active Black Country Strategy which sees a future Black Country where all ages, abilities and backgrounds are able to be more active, move and play sport.
