Annual Disability and Activity Survey

Title
Annual Disability and Activity Survey

Research Area
Disability

Author
Activity Alliance, 2020

Summary of Findings
81% of disabled people want to be more active but their demand is not being met. Only 2 in 5 feel they are given the opportunity to be as active as they'd like to be. This is resulting in negative experiences and is increasing levels of social isolation amongst disabled people. Disabled people are twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people and this research from Activity Alliance provides information on the motivations, barriers and scope for improvement.

The report recommends;

- To address the wider determinants of inactivity

- Design and lead a choice of accessible activities

- Challenge perceptions through inclusive and accessible communications

Implications
Active Black Country are embarking on a 3-year programme, funded by Activity Alliance, which will develop a programme of inclusive activities at Faith Centres in Wolverhampton. It's imperative that the design of activities on this programme is informed by the information provided in this report.
