Summary of Findings
This study examined the associations of lifetime recreational physical inactivity with renal and bladder cancer risk. Researchers identified 160 hospital patients with renal cancer, 208 patients with bladder cancer and 766 age frequency-matched control individuals without cancer. They then asked all individuals to self report their activity habits and those self-reporting zero participation in any regular/weekly recreational physical activity throughout their lifetime were classified as physically inactive. Once this data was analysed the researchers we observed significant positive associations between lifetime recreational physical inactivity and renal cancer and bladder cancer risk. This was observed amongst both obese and non-obese patients.

Implications
This adds to the growing body of evidence suggesting that physical inactivity may be an important independent risk factor for cancer.
