Active Lives
Active Lives was released by Sport England in January, and follows on from the Active People Survey to measure the physical activity habits of the nation at a local area level. The annual survey provides data about the participation in sports and physical activity of adults aged 16 and over, and their attitudes towards physical activity. In addition to sporting and fitness activities, the new survey measures levels of walking, cycling for travel, dance and gardening. Three levels of activity are defined: Inactive (less than 30 minutes a week), Fairly Active (30 – 149 minutes a week), and Active (At least 150 minutes a week).

In the Black Country 28% of adults are defined as inactive, 14% as fairly active and 58% as active. Activity levels are lower than the national average, where 22% of people are classified as inactive. In the Black Country, Dudley has the highest level of activity and Sandwell the lowest.

Detailed data on demographics and the preferred sports is currently only available at a national level and will be available at a local level from next year.  For more information on Active Lives, please click here to see the Sport England Active Lives Survey Report.
