ACTIVE BLACK COUNTRY APPOINTS SPORT WELFARE OFFICER

Active Black Country has strengthened its team with the appointment of a Sport Welfare Officer.

Liz Griffin will support National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and their local clubs across the Black Country to promote good practice and safe sport for children, young people and adults.

Liz brings significant experience from the fitness and leisure industry. Her previous roles include working for Sandwell Leisure Trust as a fitness trainer and group fitness instructor.

“I’m excited to join Active Black Country’s fantastic team as Sport Welfare Officer. I look forward to connecting with and working alongside sports clubs in Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton to support them with welfare and safeguarding issues, as well as helping to increase levels of physical activity across the region,” says Liz.

Her appointment forms part of Sport England’s commitment to establishing a national network of welfare officers through its 42 regional Active Partnerships to mentor and support clubs across England.

Ian Carey, CEO of Active Black Country, said: “It’s great to have Liz on board to add her expertise to the existing safeguarding work of NGBs and our local partners. “She will play an important role in helping us to further understand and shape the development of local organisations and clubs, ensuring that people of all ages can experience the enjoyment and benefits that being active can bring.”
