Applications Now Open for our Black Country Young Coach Academy

Active Black Country will be holding the annual Young Coach Academy on 22nd November - 24th November 2019.

Our Young coach Academy involves taking young people who have an interest within sport & physical activity/coaching (aged 16-25) on a weekend residential at Kingswood Trust (Wolverhampton) to develop their soft skills and employability prospects.  

We will also coordinate free training opportunities post the weekend residential which could involve workshops such as Behaviour change Tactics, Emergency First Aid and inclusive activities programme.  

Places are limited to 25 and involves an application process.

Deadline for this is Wednesday 2nd October 2019.

Young Coach Academy Aims

  • For each individual to develop their skillset to become more employable and seek opportunities in sport & physical activity.
  • Recruitment of young people aged 16-25 across the Black Country who are passionate in coaching/volunteering
  • Weekend residential will involve soft skill development (teamwork, communication, problem solving etc and an employability workshop. Provisionally booked Kingswood Trust (22nd November - 24th November)


Workforce opportunities for each individual including:

  • Inclusive Activities programme (how to engage people with a disability in sport & physical activity)
  • Behaviour change- Learning about tactics to engage inactive/people who don’t regularly participate in sport
  • Coaching children 5-12 workshop
  • Emergency First Aid, Safeguarding & Mental Health awareness in sport

Volunteering Opportunities

  • Signpost young person to their local CVS to explore a range of volunteering opportunities locally
  • Local partners who are looking to take on volunteers within their community group/club
  • NGB volunteering opportunities i.e. JUDO
  • Share opportunities with SGO’s
