South Staffs Sailing Club Recognised as National Sailing Club of the Year Finalist

South Staffordshire SC was recognised as being amongst Britain’s best sailing clubs as they were presented with a certificate for being a 2019 RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year Award finalist at the RYA Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace, London (2-3 March).

Outgoing Commodore, Tim Coleshaw, received South Staffs' certificate from the British Sailing Team’s James Peters after the Gailey Reservoir club was named one of 11 finalists for the prestigious RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year Award, supported by Gallagher. Devon’s Royal Torbay Yacht Club was ultimately crowned the winner after a public vote.

South Staffs, which lifted the overall national award in 2011, was also one of five finalists to have been specially-recognised for achievement in a particular area - the club claiming the accolade for 'Embracing Modern Communications’. This recognised the club's proactive and forward thinking approach to communications and marketing.

If you fancy giving sailing a go this year, South Staffs, situated just off junction 12 on the M6, is welcoming all-comers to try it for free at their annual start-of-season Open Day on Saturday 13 April. Drop in anytime between 10am and 4pm and get afloat with one of the club’s experienced sailors. There is no need to book and all ages are welcome. Just bring soft-soled shoes, waterproofs and a change of clothes in case of inclement weather.

South Staffs was also presented with a prize bundle awarded to all of this year’s Club of the Year finalists, with goodies from RYA Reward Partners including Yachts & Yachting, Gallagher, Datatag, Spinlock, ICOM, Techniblock, SACQUA, Overboard, Dryrobe and Sail Mates.
