Primary PE and School Sport Premium Conference 2020

Venue: Dunstall Racecourse, Wolverhampton

Time: 8.45am - 3.45pm

Key Note Speakers: The conference will include key updates from Mike Diaper OBE, Executive Director of Children and Young People, Sport England and will be hosted by Jacqui Oatley MBE, ITV Sport presenter, the first female commentator on Match of the Day, FA Qualified football coach and an Ambassador for Women in Football.

The 2020 Black Country Primary PE & School Sport Premium Conference is aiming to be bigger and better than 2019.

Who is it for?

The conference is FREE* to attend, and is an opportunity for you to identify how to use the Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding in an effective, sustainable and accountable way.

* Please note if you are a private provider or deliverer, or work in schools based outside the Black Country and would like to attend the Conference, a charge of £50 will be applicable. Please complete the registration as normal and the team will be in touch.

The workshop details are as follows:

Workshop A:  Healthy Schools Programme
The workshop will provide delegates with an overview of the Black Country Healthy Schools Programme including the National DFE Rating, the Active Lives Children’s Survey and further details on the Black Country Platinum Award Mark due to be launched April 2020.

Workshop B: Opening School Facilities & Funding Opportunities
The workshop will provide the opportunity to hear the emerging insight around Black Country School Facilities, local and national resources available to support open their facilities to community access and an overview of funding opportunities schools can access.

Workshop C: Active Travel and Community Transition
This workshop will provide the opportunity to understand walking and cycling plans for the region and the resulting impact and opportunities for schools. Hear local practical examples and approaches to consulting and engaging the local community in active travel.

Workshop D: Swimming and Safe Self Rescue
The workshop will provide delegates with the latest resources and guidance from Swim England to support Primary national curriculum swimming, hear local best practice approaches and the current state of play with Swimming across the Black Country.

Workshop E: 30 Active Minutes
The workshop will provide opportunities to discuss the challenges facing schools in increasing physical activity opportunities and provide a number of school examples and approaches across 2 distinct areas.
1. Utilising your School workforce
2. Implementing an effective school CPD model

Workshop F (only running once): Ofsted: A PE Deepdive - THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL
The workshop will provide support to delegates in:
• Understanding Ofsted’s role and implications of the new inspection framework
• Understand what a ‘deep dive’ in PE looks like
• Knowing what they want pupils to achieve
• Knowing how to utilise and meet statutory requirements regarding funding available

Workshop G: Mental Wellbeing - THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL
The workshop will provide an overview of what support is currently available to schools, provide ideas to support schools in the challenge against mental wellbeing and how to recognise signs of mental health issues and factors that can affect wellbeing.

Workshop H: Primary PE CPD (practical) - Gymnastics
A practical workshop providing schools with the latest information, skills and guidance to deliver high quality gymnastics lessons within your school.

Workshop I: The impact of Physical Activity on Whole School Outcomes
 A workshop providing schools with the latest evidence and research on the impact that physical activity, physical education and school sport can have across the whole school. The workshop will also allow delegates to hear headline findings from research into physical activity levels through the transition period of year 5 in primary schools to year 8 in Secondary schools.

We will be announcing the winners of the 2020 Black Country Primary PE and Sport Premium Awards during the conference. These awards will celebrate the achievements and good work of our schools during 2019/20.

Nominations are now open with the winning schools being announced during the conference.

The winners will automatically be nominated for a West Midlands Award later in the year.

The 3 categories available for nomination are:

  • Physical Activity & Health Enhancing Initiatives
  • Whole School Improvement
  • Up-Skilling Staff
