Volunteering at Birmingham 2022

Leah Goode, the Active Black Country Healthy Schools Co-ordinator has shared her experience of volunteering at Birmingham 2022.

I was lucky enough to volunteer and carry out the Workforce Manager role with colleagues from Sandwell Council, co-ordinating and supporting the local volunteers around the Sandwell Aquatic Centre.

I supported with spectators going to and from the stadium and ensuring the Volunteers were happy with what they were doing during their shifts.

Volunteering made me feel really empowered and proud to be working alongside the local community and be part of the excitement around the Aquatics Centre.

The experience for me will be one that will stay with me for a long time, being able to contribute to a local Commonwealth Games and play my part, as well as getting to spend time with people who you could see were proud to represent Sandwell and play their part.

The Sandwell Aquatic Centre has put Sandwell on the map and hosted some of the best events with Diving and Swimming.  For anyone wanting to Volunteer take up every opportunity to do so as it’s a great experience to learn new skills and meet new people!

And, as always I was proud to represent the Active Black Country Team!
