ukactive Kids and Nike launch Move Crew programme to get kids moving

ukactive Kids and Nike have today launched Move Crew, a set of activity missions designed to help kids unlock their 60 minutes of daily recommended activity.

The Coronavirus pandemic meant that schools across the UK were closed last month to all but vulnerable children and those of key workers, with many parents and carers left facing the challenge of juggling work commitments with supporting their children to learn and stay active.

Move Crew was created using the expertise of primary school staff, elite athletes, children and coaches, to support teachers, parents and carers by setting daily activity missions which can be completed either at home with family members or at school with teachers and classmates.

Each Monday, a Nike athlete will announce a new weekly theme and every morning at 8am, the new Move Mission will be released.

Week one’s theme is “Power of the Team” and features UK sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, Grantham Primary School PE Lead Hanna Sapeta, 12-year-old sprinter Savannah McKenzie Morgan, and Nike trainer Joelle D’Fontaine.

Dina Asher-Smith, the fastest British woman in recorded history, said:

As an athlete, mixing it up and giving myself daily challenges is the best way to stay motivated. I’m so excited to get to work with ukactive and Nike to inspire young boys and girls to keep moving at home.”

Working with partners across the sports, activity and education sectors, ukactive and Nike are making the content accessible to kids across the UK, with a target age of 7-12 years old.

ukactive Chair and Paralympic Champion, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson said:

We know what a difficult time this is for families across the nation who balance the challenges of busy work schedules with the unexpected childcare requirements, while doing so in restricted environments.

ukactive is delighted to be working in partnership with Nike to offer families much-needed support, providing young people with free, fun and engaging activities, championed by sporting icons like Dina Asher-Smith, along with great coaches and inspirational school heroes.”

The Move Crew programme can be found at www.ukactivekids.com/movecrew and on ukactive’s Youtube Channel

*CMO guidelines recommend children and young people engage in moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity for an average of at least 60 minutes per day across the week.
