Lucky Bike Winner Shows That This Girl Can in the Black Country

This girl definitely can in the Black Country, as Kayleigh Braznell, from Dudley, was announced as the lucky winner of a new bike.  Kayleigh attends a Black Country in Motion Exercise to Music session at Wrens Nest Community Centre and took part in a raffle last year to win the bike.

The Black Country in Motion project aims to increase sport participation in identified communities across the Black Country and will grow the opportunities for informal and formal sport by engaging and training community members, clubs and organisations to deliver and sustain inactive people into sport.

Supported by Decathlon Wednesbury, the winning bike was the main prize in a raffle to volunteers and participants.  All proceeds were put back into the Black Country in Motion project to contribute towards further training for local volunteers.

The bike presentation took place on Saturday 17th January 2015 at a Wolves Vs Blackpool match at the Molineux.  The presentation during halftime was attended by Wolves Community Trust, Black Country Consortium Ltd, Decathlon Wednesbury and as Kayleigh was unable to make the presentation; her cousins Danny and Dean Miles attended on her behalf.

Nicky Edwards, Store Manager for Decathlon Wednesbury said: "At Decathlon we want to make sport accessible to all and this is why we have chosen to work in partnership with the Black Country Consortium on both their Inspired Coaches scheme and the Black Country in Motion programme.  By working with these projects we are able to help support local clubs and organisations get more people involved in sport and see the benefits sport can have on their lives.  We look forward to continuing this partnership throughout 2015.”

Simon Hall, Director of the Black Country BeActive Partnership said: There is an ever increasing recognition that sport is fundamental in improving health and helping communities grow as well as contributing significantly to the prosperity and perception of the Black Country, and we work hard to increase participation in sport & physical activity as well as improve the sports workforce.  We are delighted to now have our Black Country in Motion bike winner and hope that she uses the bike to its full potential proving that #thisgirlcan in the Black Country."
