University of Wolverhampton Backs Local Sport
The University of Wolverhampton has confirmed its support for the 2013 Black Country Sport & Physical Activity Awards by signing up as the headline sponsor.

The Black Country Sport & Physical Activity Awards are being held on Friday 8th November at the Copthorne Hotel in Dudley and promise to be the best celebration of sporting talent in the Black Country.

The awards, currently in their 5th year are designed to showcase the Black Country at its very best, and local community clubs, coaches and volunteers will be honoured in a glittering celebration in front of 250 of the Black Country’s finest sporting representatives.

Representing the headline sponsor, Mike Chamberlain, Director of Sport at the University of Wolverhampton spoke about their involvement with the awards.  He said: "The University of Wolverhampton is delighted to be the headline sponsor for the Black Country Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2013, and is committed to supporting sport and physical activity participation in the region.  The university has invested significantly in sports facilities across the Black Country and is now developing an Institute of Sport which will develop partnerships with top regional sports clubs and National Governing Bodies of Sport, to develop talent and improve the performance of the region's athletes"

The University is also going to be sponsoring the Sportsperson of the Year category, which this year, as always, promises to be tightly contested.  Last year’s winner of this award, Olympic Bronze Medallist, Kristian Thomas said "Winning the Sportsperson award last year was a great honour and privilege.  It was fantastic to be part of the evening in which the sporting success of 2012 was celebrated."

Simon Hall, Director of the Black Country BeActive Partnership, who is organising the event, said "The University of Wolverhampton’s support is a great boost for the awards.  We know that they are one of the main sport players in the Black Country not only producing the next generation of sports staff, but also providing exceptional facilities for the local community.  We are excited about their plans for sport and the important role they see the Black Country BeActive Partnership playing in helping them realise their plans”
